  • And Can It Be
    by Charles Wesley

    And can it be that I should gain
    an interest in the Savior's blood!
    Died he for me? who caused his pain!
    For me? who him to death pursued?
    Amazing love! How can it be
    that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
    Amazing love! How can it be
    that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

    'Tis mystery all: th' Immortal dies!
    Who can explore his strange design?
    In vain the firstborn seraph tries
    to sound the depths of love divine.
    'Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;
    let angel minds inquire no more.
    'Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;
    let angel minds inquire no more.

    He left his Father's throne above
    (so free, so infinite his grace!),
    emptied himself of all but love,
    and bled for Adam's helpless race.
    'Tis mercy all, immense and free,
    for O my God, it found out me!
    'Tis mercy all, immense and free,
    for O my God, it found out me!

    Long my imprisoned sprit lay,
    fast bound in sin and nature's night;
    thine eye diffused a quickening ray;
    I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
    my chains fell off, my heart was free,
    I rose, went forth, and followed thee.
    My chains fell off, my heart was free,
    I rose, went forth, and followed thee.

    No condemnation now I dread;
    Jesus, and all in him, is mine;
    alive in him, my living Head,
    and clothed in righteousness divine,
    bold I approach th' eternal throne,
    and claim the crown, through Christ my own.
    Bold I approach th' eternal throne,
    and claim the crown, through Christ my own.

    I surely hope nobody was offended by my posting the lyrics to the Charlie Peacock song below.  For some reason, I've been wondering about that.  Seemed pretty clear to me at the time what he was talking about...but you never know if people hear things the same way.

    Here's one for everybody.

  • Happy 2009

    I spent last evening listening to Charlie Peacock.  I found some of his old music (from the early 90's) online and moved on to some I never heard.  T and I used to really enjoy his folk style music, not the jazz/fusion/pop stuff.  Hence the song I quoted below.  Yes, it is kind of bleak, I know.  But...true.

    Sometimes true is bleak.  His music has pretty sound theology in it.  Not pretty, necessarily...but sound, I think.

    And, I just love guys who sing poetry.  It drives my more musical menfolks crazy.  The less musical ones like it, because they like that style thing, too.  I like people like Bob Dylan, Michael Card, John Prine, Gordon Lightfoot, and the old hymn writers.

    I am cooking a hambone and pinto beans today.  Moving towards taking down the Christmas tree.  Moving slowly, but moving, nonetheless.

    I started a facebook last night, while listening to Charlie Peacock.  My sisters have them (one? I'm in a grammar quandry!?!)  If you have one, come join me.  It is my real name....if you don't know it, ask me here.  Hint...it is what you would expect it to be.

    Praying everyone has a blessed 2009.

    Looking for a good one here.
